Be Prepared for Emergency With a “Go Bag”

Thursday August 7 at 5 PM, as part of KMUD’s Fire Awareness Month, the SHARC Report looks at “Go Bags.” Here in fire and earthquake country, you never know when you might have to evacuate your home, and you may only have minutes to pack. With a prepacked “Go Bag,” you know you’ve got the essentials, and you won’t forget them when you are under stress and time is short. On this month’s SHARC Report we’ll talk about “Go Bags”, and what you should keep in them so that you will have less to worry about in those stressful moments as you prepare to evacuate your home. FL Digi

FL Digi is a computer program that allows Hams to communicate digitally using a variety of digital modes including Morse code, PSK 31, RTTY and more.  FL Digi is a free program that runs on all popular operating systems and easily connects to most radios.

KMUD Airs Preview of Upcoming Disaster Prep Workshop

On Thursday March 7 at 5pm, KMUD and The Southern Humboldt Amateur Radio Club present The SHARC Report. This month the program features an interview with Linda Nellist, who will lead a CERT training workshop in the Whitethorn area on Friday-Sunday, March 8-10. Linda will talk about the workshop, which involves 23 hours of instruction, covering disaster preparedness, earthquake, tsunami, flood and fire hazards, medical operations and triage, among other topics. The training includes a full disaster simulation drill, and participants will receive a backpack full of safety equipment. Ordinarily the course fee is $150 dollars, but because of generous donations Southern Humboldt residents can take the course at no charge. SHARC Ham License Course Postponed

SHARC Ham License Course Postponed

The Technician-Class Ham radio license prep. course scheduled for Jan. 5 2021 has been rescheduled due to an overwhelming response.  This means you still have time to get the book, The ARRL Ham Radio License Manual, Technician-Class, and to read it before the clas starts.  The class will begin on Feb. 9 and conclude on Feb. 16, and take place at the Garberville Baptist Church.  Call Jack Foster at 707-923-3700 for more information, and to sign up to take the course.

This month on the SHARC Report.  I will talk to Gary Welborn, K6JXM.  Gary holds an Extra-Class Ham radio license, and is the SHARC Club’s current Treasurer.  He is also a Deputy OES Coordinator and serves on the board of our local hospital district.  We’ll talk about what he enjoys about Ham radio, his 440MHz repeater, and SHARC Club finances.  The SHARC Report airs on the first Thursday of every month at 5:00pm on KMUD Community radio, Garberville, CA

This Month on The SHARC Report, Highlights From Shelter Cove Lighthouse Activation

This afternoon, at 5pm Pacific time, on KMUD Garberville, KMUE Eureka, Arcata, KLAI Laytonville, and K205BQ in Shelter Cove, The SHARC Report will present highlights from the SHARC club’s activation of the Cape Mendocino Lighthouse in Shelter Cove, as part of the North American Lighthouse Weekend.
